As a member if the VIZIO Information Technology organization, the Technology Sourcing & Vendor Management lead is a strategic role that continually assesses business needs, financials and the technology vendor market to determine the best options and sources of supply for the organization. Additionally, the role is responsible for all phases of vendor management for technology and IT vendors seeking business with VIZIO, Inc across North America. He or she will be the primary resource responsible for establishing best the practice processes and technology needs for the VIZIO Technology Sourcing team. He or she owns and must understand contractual, commercial and operational working relationships with vendors to ensure effective delivery of committed goods and services. This role is a leadership position, reporting directly to the Director of IT Operations & Information Security.

 

Technology sourcing organization leadership & strategy:

  • Develop and communicate a clear mission, vision and guiding principles for the technology sourcing organization to align with, and support both IT and business strategies.
  • Ensure the development and maturity of key sourcing competencies, such as business relationship management, senior stakeholder management, negotiations, category planning, analytics, project management, finance or statistics, and executive communication through training programs and mentoring.
  • Manage projects against an approved plan and objectives to ensure that commitments are met by monitoring, assessing, and resolving variances in budget, timing or quality of work.
  • Make recommendations and provide pertinent input to technology sourcing options as they relate to stakeholder financial goals and plans.
  • Develop, through a collaborative and inclusive approach, a technology sourcing strategy that delivers against corporate IT and business strategy priorities and translates corporate IT and business imperatives into effective technology procurement plans.
  • Identify and evaluate the best options for supply, which may include acquisition of technology products, outsourcing or insourcing, or other alternatives such as joint ventures, brokering vendor partnerships or potential technology acquisitions.
  • Promote/communicate the sourcing strategy to the organization's senior executive team, ensuring that it is well-socialized and well-supported by key stakeholders. Also, develop an action plan to evolve sourcing into a strategic business function.
  • Work with the VP Information Technology and business executives to develop strategies that leverage technology vendor ecosystems to achieve business and IT strategic priorities.
  • Lead the evaluation of optimal sourcing options, taking into consideration outsourcing/cloud, hybrid and insourcing models.
  • Build an operating model that supports a bimodal sourcing approach.
  • Support team training and continuous improvement, along with team and individual KPIs.
  • Sponsor and initiate continuous process improvement projects to improve sourcing service delivery in order to exceed internal stakeholder expectations and requirements. Create contract and category templates and supplier registration programs that enable speed in negotiations.
  • Develop organizational design and functional roles and responsibilities for technology vendor management.
  • Aid procurement teams (or other roles primarily charged with contract negotiation) to optimize the cost-effectiveness of negotiations and ensure compliance of negotiated agreements to established vendor management policies and practices (such as articulation of service levels and deliverables, etc.).

 

Technology Vendor Management:

  • Manage the maintenance/enhancement of tools for use in vendor management, including vendor tracking, analytics and performance management tools (scorecards and dashboards). Performs routine maintenance.
  • Coordinate with asset management resources (where applicable) to assist in the management and tracking of software and hardware assets.
  • Manage vendor relationships as the key point of contact between specified vendors and the business.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for vendor issues and disputes and drive those issues to resolution.
  • Manage the communication process with vendors, including what information should be communicated, when and by whom, to ensure that appropriate leverage is preserved.

 

Contract Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance of agreements with vendors and ensure that they are current/up to date and compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of a repository of vendors in a contract management database or similar solution to track key dates (expirations, renewals) and assess demand.
  • Classify and rationalize the vendor portfolio so that focus can be applied to the most strategically important vendor relationships/engagements.
  • Maintain an inventory of vendor spend (often in collaboration with other areas, such as finance and procurement) by category (software, hardware, telecom, staff augmentation, services), cost center and region.

 

IT Asset Management:

  • Ensure that appropriate resources (people, tools, services) and processes are in place to gather and analyze data relating to technology asset life cycles and related processes.
  • Promote and advocate the value of ITAM to the VP Information Technology and organizational leaders. This includes developing and promoting effective ITAM strategies, policy, approaches and practices across the full range of digital technology assets used within the organization.
  • Ensure that ITAM-related tools and services are properly evaluated, selected, implemented, configured and maintained, with appropriate integration with other sources of organizational data.
  • Supervise the organization’s response to software vendor license compliance audits or license validation requests, in consultation with the relevant vendor and procurement managers, software asset manager and other appointed delegates.
  • Provide access to technology asset data in support of essential activities required to support the effective running of the business.
  • Manage the everyday functions of the core IT asset management team. This includes staffing, budgeting and other relevant management functions required to hold all IT and business stakeholders accountable for optimizing the cost, risk and benefit of digital technology assets throughout their life cycle.

 

Required Qualifications (Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience):

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree and 6-10 years relevant experience or Graduate degree and 4-8 years relevant experience.

 

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership, including team leadership and organizational skills, in a cross-cultural environment in a job with a similar level of responsibility
  • Current knowledge of the global technology product and service market and its trends
  • Knowledge of the sources of data and analytics to support the development and execution of sourcing strategies
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-influencing skills
  • Knowledgeable in financial analysis, strategy formation and business case development
  • Broad knowledge of the IT industry and the products and services provided by technology vendors
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory and industry requirements (where applicable)
  • Working knowledge of contract management and negotiation
  • Understanding of the entire vendor life cycle (sourcing, procurement, vendor management), and how internal roles interact and operate throughout the duration of vendor engagements
  • Solid grasp of financial concepts, such as depreciation schedules, dollar costing and total cost of ownership
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key business and technical concepts, and then effectively communicate these concepts with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management
  • Ability to read and interrupt contracts to properly manage digital technology, which includes license and maintenance agreements
  • The IT asset manager must have in-depth knowledge and experience of the following:
  • Technology asset life cycle (whether digital technology, information, financial or physical assets), best practice governance, tools and services
  • Policy, process, and procedure development and implementation
  • Technology contracts and their likely cost implications through the technology asset life cycle

 

Experience:

  • Ten or more years in technology sourcing and/or procurement and/or vendor management is expected, with at least four to five years as a technology sourcing or category manager.
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience in vendor management or a related field.
  • Three years of supervisory experience (where applicable)

  • Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA)
  • ITIL v3 Foundation certification
  • Certified IT Asset Manager (CITAM)
